Asthenewyearapproaches,manypeopletaketimetoreflectonthepastyearandsetgoalsfortheupcomingone.Forastudent,thebeginningofanewyearbringsasenseofnewbeginningsandfreshstarts.Thisisastoryaboutastudentwhoreflectedontheirpastyearandmadechangestobetterthemselvesinthenewyear.Emilyisacollegestudentwhohashadachallengingyear.Shestruggledwithbalancingheracademics,sociallife,andmentalhealth.However,asthenewyearapproached,Emilydecidedtotakethetimetoreflectonthepastyearandmakechangestobetterherself.Emilybeganherreflectionbytakingoutherjournalandwritingdowneverythingshehadaccomplishedinthepastyear.Shewassurprisedtoseehowmuchshehadachieved,despitethechallengesshefaced.
Afterwritingdownheraccomplishments,Emilywrotedowneverythingshestruggledwithinthepastyear.Sherealizedthatmanyofherstruggleswereduetopoortimemanagementandprioritization.Emilydecidedthatinthenewyear,shewouldprioritizeheracademicsandmentalhealthoverhersociallife.Shesetgoalsforherselftostudymoreefficientlyandtotakebreakswhenneeded.Inadditiontoheracademicgoals,Emilyalsosetgoalsforhermentalhealth.Shedecidedtostartpracticingmeditationandyogadailyandtoseekhelpfromatherapistifneeded.Asthenewyearbegan,Emilystartedimplementinghernewhabits.Shefoundthatstudyingefficientlygavehermorefreetimetodothethingssheloved,suchasspendingtimewithfriendsandfamily.
Emily'sdailymeditationandyogapracticehelpedhermanageheranxietyandstresslevels.Shefoundthatshewasabletofocusmoreinclassandwaslesseasilyoverwhelmedbyherworkload.AsEmilycontinuedtoprioritizeheracademicsandmentalhealth,shefoundthatshewashappierandmorefulfilled.Shewasproudoftheprogressshehadmadeandwasexcitedtoseewhatelseshecouldachieve.However,Emilysoonrealizedthatshewasneglectingherphysicalhealth.Shehadnotbeentakingcareofherbodyandhadbeeneatingunhealthyfoodsandnotexercisingregularly.Emilydecidedtosetnewgoalsforherphysicalhealth.Shestartedgoingtothegymandcookinghealthymealsathome.Shefoundthattakingcareofherbodynotonlymadeherfeelbetterphysicallybutalsomentally.
AsEmilycontinuedtoprioritizeherphysicalhealth,shefoundthatshehadmoreenergyandwasabletofocusbetterinclass.Sherealizedtheimportanceoftakingcareofoneselfholistically.However,Emilysoonfoundherselfstrugglingwithtimemanagementagain.Shehadtakenontoomanyresponsibilitiesandwashavingtroublebalancingthemall.Emilydecidedtoreevaluateherprioritiesandcutbackonsomeofhercommitments.Sherealizedthatitwasbettertodoafewthingswellthanmanythingspoorly.Emilyfoundthatbyreducinghercommitments,shehadmoretimetofocusonthethingsthatwereimportanttoher.Shefeltlessoverwhelmedandmoreincontrolofherlife.
AsEmilycontinuedtoreflectonherpastyearandmakechangesforthenewyear,sherealizedthatitwasimportanttobekindtoherself.Shehadsethighexpectationsforherselfandwasoftentoohardonherselfwhenshefellshort.Emilydecidedtopracticeself-compassionandtoremindherselfthatitwasokaytomakemistakes.Shefoundthatthishelpedherfeelmoremotivatedandlessdiscouragedwhenthingsdidnotgoasplanned.Asthenewyearwenton,Emilycontinuedtoprioritizeheracademics,mentalhealth,physicalhealth,andtimemanagement.Shefoundthatbydoingso,shewasabletoliveamorebalancedandfulfillinglife.Emilyrealizedthatreflectingonherpastyearandsettinggoalsforthenewonehadbeenincrediblybeneficialforher.Sheencouragedotherstodothesameandtonotbeafraidtomakechangesforthebetter.
Astheyearapproacheditsend,Emilylookedbackatalltheprogressshehadmade.Shefeltproudofherselfandknewthatshehadbecomeabetterversionofherself.Emilyknewthattherewouldstillbechallengesaheadbutfeltmoreequippedtofacethem.Sheknewthatwithapositivemindsetandawillingnesstoreflectandmakechanges,shecouldachieveanythingshesethermindto.AstheclockstruckmidnightonNewYear'sEve,Emilymadeapromisetoherselftocontinuetoreflect,grow,andmakepositivechangesinherlife.Thenewyearhadarrived,andEmilywasexcitedtoseewhatithadinstoreforher.Sheknewthatwithhernewfoundhabitsandmindset,shewasreadytotakeonwhatevercameherway.
